Until now, artificial intelligence has mostly been described as a tool to speed up processes and automate tasks. But what happens when it enters the space itself and becomes a new way of interacting with the home?
For over twenty years we have worked alongside architects, designers and shipyards, integrating into a single ecosystem the various technologies that shape how a space is experienced, from comfort to energy efficiency.
We operate both in high-end residential and in yachting, two worlds between which an increasingly shared design sensibility is emerging. Those who live in a prestigious residence look for the same level of comfort and personalisation on board, and vice versa. The solutions we have developed in yacht design thus find new possibilities of application in architecture.
Nextworks develops a platform capable of coordinating the technologies that contribute to the wellbeing of those who live in the home, offering simple and complete management of the entire property, including gardens and outdoor areas.

Nextworks: A New Tool for Your Project
Being a solution provider means starting from the project and identifying, case by case, the technologies best suited to realise it. It means supporting architects and interior designers in the search for reliable technical solutions, able to fit elegantly within the identity of the space.
The experience gained in the nautical world has taught us to integrate complex systems into precisely defined spaces; residential architecture, in turn, inspires new reflections on natural light, landscape and the dynamic evolution of environments throughout the day.
Artificial intelligence thus joins the tools we have long placed at the service of a project, allowing us to develop new solutions and expand the possibilities of existing ones.
But What Is AI For?
Many of you already use artificial intelligence through tools like ChatGPT. When we ask it to reorganise a text, prepare an itinerary or develop an idea, we express the result we want without specifying every single step required to achieve it. The system interprets the request, organises the available information and translates it into a response.
In this sense, AI can be understood as a new interface between an intention and a system capable of realising it. Within the Nextworks ecosystem, the outcome of this mediating interface is control over how the environments of an entire property behave.
For artificial intelligence to translate a request into an interaction, it must receive the necessary context: knowing which lights, blinds, climate systems and audiovisual devices are available, where they are located, how they can interact with one another and what limits they must respect
This knowledge enables applications that go beyond immediately perceivable comfort. Air quality readings can be related to environmental conditions and to the operation of the climate system, helping to maintain optimal conditions over time for the best possible air quality. Likewise, energy consumption data can take into account natural light, schedules and the actual use of spaces, coordinating lighting, blinds and climate to reduce waste without compromising wellbeing
Our digital living platform provides the AI-based system with the context it needs. On this foundation, every aspect of the interaction between person and home can be designed, opening up new experiential possibilities. It is precisely this level of personalisation that distinguishes Nextworks solutions from consumer voice assistants, which are designed to offer a necessarily more standardised experience. The AI agent’s voice can be chosen or created according to the client’s specifications; vocabulary, tone, register and length of responses can all be defined in relation to the identity of the place and of those who will live in it. Artificial intelligence thus becomes design material, helping to shape an increasingly bespoke environment.
From the Rigidity of Commands to the Fluidity of Dialogue
A system based on artificial intelligence allows people to express what they need in a natural way, without having to know device names or remember command sequences. It presents itself as a kind of digital butler that interprets the expressed need and delivers different solutions each time, based also on the conditions of the environment at that precise moment.
The system interprets the intention and coordinates the available elements according to the possibilities defined by the project. The same logic runs through a villa as much as a yacht, adapting to different modes of use while maintaining an interaction coherent with the place.
This design capability can be extended further to the aesthetic and visual aspects of the space, through dynamic works conceived to evolve together with the light, the time of day and the atmosphere of the environment.
The system’s freedom of action remains confined to what is established during the design phase. It is the architect who decides from the outset which elements of the space can be involved, and to what extent the system may handle them.
This is only the beginning of a new way of designing the relationship between people and space. In the next article, we will explore in depth the solutions that make it possible.
