Nextworks: The Invisible Structure Of Comfort

In the previous article we described artificial intelligence as a new interface between the people who live in a space and the technologies that govern it, reaching even the aesthetic dimension, with works conceived as part of the environment.
Here we shift the point of observation to another level of intelligence within the system: the ability to make the infrastructure legible and to assist those who maintain its operation over time.
It’s a less visible aspect, but a fundamental one. As functions and coordinated subsystems multiply, what’s needed is a constantly updated representation of the system and the status of its services, together with tools designed for those who manage it technically.
AI thus enters the least visible structure of comfort — the one on which the continuity of the experience depends, well beyond the day of handover.

Nextworks: the project beyond handover
Designing an environment means defining forms and materials, but also imagining how it will be lived in. When a particular level of brightness is chosen to accompany a path, or a grazing light to bring out a work of art, those choices become a distinctive signature: a genuine geography of the space, able to accompany its different uses.
But what happens if, after handover, in a room designed to become a home cinema the lights and blinds respond correctly, while the audio or video fail to start? Even if the problem doesn’t directly concern whoever designed the project, it ends up altering its perception.
A constantly updated map of the relationships between the space and the infrastructure that governs it makes it possible to reconstruct the path of the fault, isolate its origin and direct the intervention quickly.
The audio-video example makes concrete a principle that runs through the entire property — and doesn’t stop at home-automation functions: it extends to air quality, energy-consumption monitoring, and the energy efficiency of the environments.
Knowing the system to protect the experience
In a villa, in its gardens or aboard a yacht, the various functions integrated into the project must operate simultaneously. Their status is monitored over time, so that variations and faults can be recognised before they compromise the experience. The quality perceived at handover can thus continue to express itself for years.
Technical information about the system remains accessible exclusively to authorised operators, who use it through dedicated programs to maintain its operation. A continuous cycle is created: every configuration updates the representation of the system, every fault is related to the structure involved, every intervention enriches its history. The system thus learns to recognise problems already addressed and to guide subsequent checks more effectively.

An ecosystem built around the project
Nextworks has always worked alongside designers and design studios, with technological solutions that form a coherent ecosystem. The goal is continuity between what is imagined, what the people living in the space perceive, and the technical structure that will have to sustain it over time. A shared platform coordinates the entire property and makes it possible to add new functions without losing the connection to the identity of the project.
From this base, two directions develop. The first — AI Experience — extends the relationship with the environment through voice and a dynamic aesthetic. The second — AI System — makes the structure of the installation legible and assists technicians in maintaining its operation. In both cases, the scope of AI’s action remains defined by the project: technical information is reserved for authorised operators, and decisions remain in the hands of people.
They are two parts of the same journey: expanding the possibilities of those who design, and ensuring that the experience imagined for a space remains recognisable over the years.
